Sighişoara is an UNESCO-protected monument town since 1999 and it is included in the world heritage list. It is a medieval fortress built in 1280, still inhabited.
In the XIVth century around the fortress settled craftsmen organized in strong guilds, that raised around the for-tress a defense wall built of stone, 930 m long and 4 m high.
In the XVth century, there were built 14 towers, that named after the guilds that contributed to their construction.Today there are 9 towers left: Clock Tower, Tanners’, Tailors’, Black-smiths’, Furriers’, Shoe-makers’, Butchers’, Rope Makers’ and Tinsters’. The Clock Tower is a true symbol of Sighisoara. Another valuable monument is the Church on the Hill, set on the highest hill of the city. The image of the citadel, in a medieval fairytale atmosphere, impresses strongly with a view where all the history is concentrated.
